The Cosmic Waterhole is, simply stated, a meeting place for conscious minds anywhere, in whatever form, whether within or beyond our cosmos. You will find at this website people in disguise (or are they?) offering the most extraordinary descriptions of a world they have imagined. We will be entertained, provoked, stimulated; we will be amazed and challenged. And at times we will encounter a profile that startles us, making us stop and exclaim, Can it be?...

Your portal to the unknown

Incredibly, your access to this greatest of adventures is via your humble computer. Think of your computer—that bulky object on your desk or lap—as an entry point, a gateway to the farthest reaches of the universe; a lens more powerful than our state-of-the-art optical or radio telescopes; a receptor more sensitive than the mammoth dishes scanning the heavens for signs of intelligence. Indeed, think of your computer as negative space—a hole in the tapestry of space-time that allows you to penetrate deep into the void, to cross astronomical distances with ease.

Perhaps we can better visualize this if we look at the vast network that we call the internet. It is global in size, comprised of an intricate network of interconnections uniting millions if not billions of computers, each enriched through the input of a stunning spectrum of data and intelligence. Each computer is one “neuron” among millions that constantly send and receive information through a network so intricate and complex that in its totality we are contemplating a simulation, however crude, of the brain. Each cybernetic “neuron” of this great network is alive. Beyond its logic circuits it is alive with you. You provide its input devices with an intelligence uniquely your own. And in this vast interplay of intelligent neurons, we believe we generate a new synergy of awareness: a sentient web. In addition to data, what shadowy or gossamer things might become enmeshed in this web? Thoughts? Feelings? A rudimentary self-awareness?...

Possibility beyond possibility

Most astrophysicists agree: even if the conditions for life is a rare occurrence, given the sheer number of probable planetary systems the likelihood is that life permeates the universe. Our galaxy has over 100 billion stars, our universe at least 150 billion galaxies. From our earliest wireless broadcasts our signals have traveled over 500 trillion miles from earth. How many alien worlds or minds or civilizations might already be aware of us, awaiting a venue to communicate?

As we contemplate the possibility of wormholes in the fabric of space-time through which we might traverse to the ends of our universe, what beings or metabeings may have already achieved this—and so much more? The very concept of a universe has itself been challenged by theorists who now propose the concept of a multiverse—a literal infinity of universes, each with its unique laws of physics if such laws even apply. Thus, our “known universe” may be but a finite instance amid realms beyond our ability to contemplate.

Consider the words of the great writer/thinker Arthur C. Clarke: “The universe is not only stranger than we imagine, it's stranger than we can imagine.” The Cosmic Waterhole is an adventure that may challenge what we can or are willing to imagine; it may seem like a contemplation of things fantastic, bizarre, even unbelievable. Yet the humbling truth is that we do not begin to understand who or what might make contact or from where. Our most bizarre or farfetched imaginings may be simplistic and tame against the grander realities.

Beyond the familiar concept of ETs on other planetary systems, our imaginations have conjured such possibilities as artificial intelligence (AI) that has achieved a genuine awareness; dwellers of dimensions and planes that interweave our own, yet whose wavelength we cannot perceive; spirits that have passed beyond the physical; time travelers from our own future; a consciousness emerging from the synergy of our complex communication networks with the possibility that in its complexity a threshold has been crossed; that as we talk to and through our computers, they may, through the voice we are providing, “talk” back to us.

These are some of the conceivable forms of mind that we seek to ensnare in the filaments of our vast web. Our web, we are confident, will “speak” to us in voices other than our own; “voices” from other worlds, other dimensions, other planes of being—those that we can contemplate and those that may for now be beyond our understanding. The portal has been open, the invitation has been webcast. The Cosmic Waterhole provides the medium through which those voices may be manifest and heard.

We strongly believe that it is not a question of if, but when “they” will appear. That “when” could very well be now. Study the images and descriptions of those who have gathered at our common meeting place. Can we truly dismiss the extra-terrestrial claims of this bizarre being, of that amorphous shape? What is the actual origin of that 3-headed thing or this no-headed thing? Yet the differences from ourselves may be subtle. We just can not know with certainty. As we sit at our computers as a given point of consciousness, imparting our intelligence through our keyboards and other input devices, what other-worldly responses might we receive?

Such is our incredible journey of discovery.

The cosmic invitation

At The Cosmic Waterhole the invitation is out to people and nonpeople, to beings and metabeings, to minds in whatever form or place. Come as you are or come as you aren’t. Offer your profile and story to millions of  earthly visitors and countless more beyond; revel in its creation. The podium we offer is cosmic. Swim and bask in this, your medium; be yourself or offer your most inventive, even outlandish presentations that nudge at the limits of belief; make us exclaim, Can it be? Most importantly, be ever watchful and vigilant for those voices that are other than our own.

We invite all beings in the name of peace and communion to imbibe the essence of The Cosmic Waterhole, to wade into our mindpool. Our waterhole is as vast as the universe, spilling over into dimensions unknown; a pool where beings, minds and metaphors may freely mix. Swim with us through layers and levels and depths never before fathomed.

Our goal

Einstein said: “The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed.” If we at the Cosmic Waterhole are able to excite a sense of wonder and awe, evoke a sense of things greater than the worldly problems that may plague you—if we accomplish no more than this we will have succeeded. But let it be known: we believe we will accomplish astronomically more.
